Farm-to-Table
New Chandigarh Campus
The Farm-to-Table initiative at DPS Siswan is a holistic educational program that integrates sustainable agriculture, environmental awareness, and nutrition education into the school’s curriculum. The goal is to provide students with hands-on farming experience while reinforcing the importance of responsible food consumption and environmental stewardship.

Experiential Learning:
Our flower and butterfly gardens provide an immersive experience in horticulture and pollination, helping students understand the delicate balance of nature. Through hands-on gardening, they develop patience, responsibility, and a deep respect for life.
- Students actively participate in farming activities, from seed sowing to harvesting.
- They cultivate vegetables, h erbs, and grains, observing the entire growth cycle.
- The school incorporates lessons on organic farming, composting, irrigation techniques, and soil conservation.
Sustainability & SDGs Alignment:
- The program is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to food security, sustainable agriculture, climate action, and responsible consumption.
- It emphasizes zero-waste principles, bio-waste management, and reducing carbon footprints in food production.

Nutrition & Healthy Eating:
- Students learn about balanced diets, nutritional values of different foods, and the benefits of consuming fresh, locally grown produce.
- Farm-fresh produce is incorporated into school meals, reinforcing healthy eating habits.

Animal Care &
Farm-Based Activities:
- The school’s petting zoo and farm animal zones provide a platform for students to understand the role of livestock in sustainable agriculture.
- Activities like cow milking demonstrations, horse rides, and feeding farm animals teach empathy, responsibility, and the basics of dairy farming.
Integration into the Curriculum:
- The Farm-to-Table concept is woven into subjects like science, geography, economics, and environmental studies.
- Students research climate change, conduct soil analysis, explore biodiversity, and understand global agricultural challenges.
- Creative and interactive sessions, such as pollination role-plays, farm storytelling, and seed germination experiments, make learning engaging.

Dalhousie Public School’s Farm-to-Table initiative is more than just a farming experience – it is a transformative educational journey that prepares students to be conscious, responsible global citizens who value sustainability and healthy living.
